Who is Maegan Coker?
Actress, Writer, Producer and Spokes Model Tell us how your acting career started and what inspired you?
Since I was a child I was captured by the Hollywood classics and always had dreams of becoming a successful independent filmmaker. Growing up I would participate in school & church plays, and attended theatre, acting, and performing art academics, however, it was not until my mid 30's was I able to apply what I learned. And what's interesting is that my inspiration comes from music. Often I will listen to amazing music artists like Prince or Michael Jackson and study how they express themselves. How they chose to speak to the world and from there I will do the same within my career but in my in my own matter. What were the challenges you encountered?
There have been so many challenges but there's one particular issue that has always been very striking to me. As an entrepreneur having others accept your kindness in this industry without conditions seemed to be such a struggle and that's when I knew I had a calling. I wanted to make a difference in this world, person by person and through each opportunity possible. With this being said, past and current endeavours have been such a blessing and I look forward to the future!
What has been your greatest accomplishment as an actress?
One of my greatest accomplishments as an actress has been being apart of the short web series, CALL ME. I play the character of Julia and this neat romantic series has been very fortunate to win eight awards so it's been an amazing journey.
Communication can be challenging across the crew. How do you manage the difference in personalities?
Anyone will tell you - I will completely embrace all walks of life. It doesn't matter to me the difference in personalities as long as there is harmony. I will always find a way to make a friend or learn something new from another. In fact, I still keep in touch with past cast mates. I have found that in this industry you need to stay encouraged and social media has developed its platforms throughout the years and whether it's through Facebook / Instagram postings, tweets, or simple texts we will all keep in touch with each other. It helps keep the overall morale and actor's state of mind in the game. Otherwise, gifted actors become discouraged and discontinue the industry all together.
Have you worked with a diverse group of people?
Atlanta, Georgia is known for its diversity and it's one of the things I love about it. The more complex the group is in nature the better the look will be in my mind because nothing is a straight line. Society is not is not a "one size fits all " mentality. So diversity in my mind is a blend of unity and equality and something to which I stand for every day.
How do you encourage aspiring actors who are intimidated by auditions?
I encourage everyone to pursue their dreams, never give up, or look back and always move forward. Sometimes you have to give those encouragement sideline talks and behind scenes this is how I would keep my fellow actors encouraged: "You know - Its going to take practice, one opportunity after another, everyone is not going to understand your passion and that's okay. It wasn't meant for them to understand but you, so show them. Show them what you were made to do... what you can do.. Show them how great you are...ignore the side talk because you came here to do one thing. Win. - So go get it! I'm right here. When one rises we all rise. - Go rise babe and I'll meet you on the other side!"
Of all the roles you have played, which is your favourite?
Thus far I have enjoyed playing roles of comedy, however, I would love to try my hand at a psychological thriller, action, or sci-fi theme. I love roles with determination & willpower!
Which actor or actress will you love to work with?
I would have relished the chance to work with Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn. Since a child that's all I have done is watched their movies and autobiographies. Moving to current times, Oprah Winfrey, Julia Roberts, Whoopi Goldberg, Sarah Jessica Parker... It's such a hard decision to make! There are so many wonderful actresses out there and when it comes down to actors its even harder; Ludacris, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, Johnny Depp, Denzel Washington
What is your favorite place to visit and why ?
LONDON of course - I miss it over seas and cannot wait to be reunited with all my friends again! :) Do you have a personal or favorite quote?
As long as I do not take myself too seriously I should not be too badly off." - Prince.
